Audio Editing

I had some help with this one. I was pretty impressed with how simple Travis from the Buzzsprout YouTube channel made editing in Garageband (I have embedded his video below).

I should start by saying that I am very comfortable in Audacity and Adobe Audition. I have been editing audio for fun for a long time. I would make mixtapes in high school that actually mixed! I might have been an analog DJ in another life. And yet... jumping into Garageband was driving me insane. Some things are less intuitive than I had hoped. I think it was that way in an attempt to make it more user friendly, ironically!

Now that I've played around with Garageband's multitrack recording and editing shortcuts (and even making some fun theme music grooves to make the podcast more interesting), I think I would use it again. I need to get a better microphone, however!

Questions:

  1. What age group would you first introduce podcasting to?

  2. Who do you imagine your target audience is (if you start making regular podcasts as a teacher librarian)?

Hey Christian,

I think that it would be great to get kids podcasting at a young age because they are so free and uninhibited when it comes to what they want to talk about it would be so organic. My kids (even my 12 year old who pretended not to be interested was interested) I think it would be a great alternative to show and tell!

HAHAHA I don't think that anyone wants to listen to me ramble on about random things. However, I think it would be a neat idea to direct a podcast to parents... you could talk about new books, new videos, things that are happening in the school that they might not see or hear…
